What the numbers say

r/smallbusiness sees a very high volume of posts โ€” about 111 a day โ€” with moderate discussion. High volume with moderate discussion is close to the ideal shape: opportunities appear constantly, and enough people reply that the room is demonstrably occupied. It accepts text posts only, so there is no way to submit a link as a post โ€” whatever you want read has to be written out in the post itself.

A demand feed you are not allowed to sell into

Over a hundred posts a day, essentially all of them text, essentially all of them someone describing an operational problem in detail. As raw material for understanding your market, nothing else on Reddit comes close.

The catch is severe and recent. As of June 2026 the rules remove product mentions from posts and comments where they appear directly or indirectly promotional. Not just links โ€” mentions. There is a weekly promote-your-business thread, and that is the only place promotion belongs. Market-research posts hunting for pain points are separately banned, which catches a lot of founders developing a new product.

So the correct use is asymmetric and worth being explicit about: read it constantly, sell in it never. Answer questions where you can genuinely help without naming what you sell. The value you extract is knowing exactly how your buyers phrase their problem, which is worth more than a handful of leads and goes straight into your landing page copy.
