r/marketing

A genuinely professional marketing community, and the hardest room on this list to get into. Two million members producing under two posts a day tells you how much gets removed.

What the numbers say

r/marketing sees very few posts โ€” about 1.9 a day โ€” with heavy discussion on almost everything posted. Very low volume against very high discussion. Everything that survives moderation is read carefully, which is the whole reason the community is worth anything.

The gate you have to clear first

Before anything else, a practical obstacle that catches almost everyone: posting and commenting are restricted to accounts over 30 days old with at least 300 combined karma. Below that threshold your contribution is removed automatically and you are not told. People spend weeks assuming their comments are simply being ignored.

Once you are through, the rules stay severe. Advertising, self-promotion and spam carry a permanent ban rather than a removal. AI-generated content carries a permanent ban. App ideas and feedback requests carry a permanent ban. Beginner questions are redirected elsewhere. Job hunting and resume feedback are removed.

What remains is a small number of substantive threads a day among senior practitioners, with a median of thirty-five comments. For an agency or a marketing tool, this is a reputation channel of unusually high quality and unusually slow speed. The correct approach is to clear the karma gate through ordinary participation elsewhere on Reddit, then contribute here as a named professional with no company attached to your username.

Frequently asked questions

Can you promote your business in r/marketing?

Absolutely not. Advertising, self-promotion and spam carry a permanent ban rather than a warning, and there is no promotional thread exception. Even linking your own blog post as an answer counts.

Is r/marketing good for finding leads?

Useful, but the promotion rules will catch you out. Nobody posts buying requests here, and the karma gate means you cannot participate at all for your first month.

How active is r/marketing?

About 1.9 posts a day from 2M members, with a median of 35 comments per post โ€” heavy discussion on almost everything posted.
