r/forhire sees a busy stream of posts — about 40 a day — with almost no discussion — the typical post is ignored. The median of one comment is misleading and worth understanding: applicants are required to apply by private message, so all the real activity is invisible. The single comment is usually the poster clarifying something. It accepts text posts only, so there is no way to submit a link as a post — whatever you want read has to be written out in the post itself.

Because applications happen by DM, you cannot see how many people replied to a gig post — and the answer is usually many, quickly. An inbox is read top to bottom, and the client builds their shortlist from the first handful of messages and stops. Being early beats being eloquent, by a wide margin.

The rules that matter most:

• One [For Hire] post per seven days. A hard limit, so use it in a week you actually have capacity.
• Apply by private message, never in comments — and do not comment to announce that you have sent one.
• No bots. Automated contact is banned for freelancers and hirers alike, so any tool that sends messages on your behalf is a ban risk.
• Currency only. No equity, barter, "pay what you want", contests or speculative work. Hourly work under $15/hour is removed as obnoxiously low.
• Portfolio or résumé required in the body of a [For Hire] post.
• No B2B. The subreddit connects freelancers to gigs, not companies to clients — agencies are out.

That last rule catches people out constantly. If you are an agency rather than an individual contractor, this is not your subreddit.
