What each was actually for
These two were shortlisted together constantly and were never really competing. GummySearch answered "what does this community care about?" — a question you ask when entering a market. RedditScout answers "which post should I reply to today?" — a question you ask once you already know.
That is why the honest answer to "which is better" was always "which job are you doing", and it is why the shutdown leaves an uneven gap. The lead-finding half has several replacements. The research half has no exact one.
What to use instead, by what you wanted
You wanted the research workspace
We do not replace this, and it would be dishonest to claim otherwise on a page you landed on while looking for GummySearch. RedditScout requires you to already be able to describe a good lead; if you cannot yet, it is the wrong tool and you would be frustrated.
The free substitutes are cruder but real: Reddit's own search sorted by top over a long window surfaces a community's recurring questions, and our Subreddit Checker tells you whether a community is active and what its rules are before you invest time in it.
You wanted a steady flow of people to reply to
This is what RedditScout is built for, and the migration is straightforward. Your saved audiences become the subreddit list on a query; the filtering you did by eye becomes a written paragraph describing the situation a good lead is in, plus your exclusions. An AI applies it to every new post and emails you a ranked shortlist with a draft reply.
If your monitoring was mostly brand and competitor names, be aware you may not need to pay anyone: F5Bot is free and does exact keyword matching including comments. We would rather you knew that.
Before you commit to any Reddit tool
The lesson worth taking from this shutdown is not which vendor to pick. It is that Reddit's Data API terms are a structural risk for every product in this category, ours included — that is exactly what GummySearch ran into. Keep your subreddit lists and lead criteria written down somewhere you control, prefer tools you can export from, and avoid building a process only one vendor can run.

Can I still choose GummySearch over RedditScout?
No. New signups closed on 30 November 2025. Existing paid customers keep access until 30 November 2026, after which the service is switched off and all data deleted.
Why did GummySearch close?
It could not reach a commercial licensing agreement with Reddit for Data API access, and chose to wind down rather than operate without one.
Does RedditScout do what GummySearch did?
Only one half of it. GummySearch was strongest at audience research — exploring what a community discusses. RedditScout does the other half: scoring new posts against your definition of a good lead so you can reply to the right ones. If research was what you wanted, we are not a like-for-like replacement and say so.
