Brand24 vs Mention

Both are established social-listening platforms aimed at marketing and communications teams, and on paper they look almost interchangeable. We build a Reddit lead-finding tool rather than a listening suite, so we have no stake in which of these you pick — which makes it easier to be straight about how they differ and about when neither is what you need.

What they have in common

More than either would like to admit. Both crawl news sites, blogs, forums and the major social networks; both offer boolean query building, sentiment classification, reach estimates, alerting and exportable reports; both are sold to marketing and communications teams rather than individuals; and both have moved steadily upmarket as the category consolidated.

If your requirement is "show my team what is being said about us across the internet, and let me report on it", either will do that competently. The honest answer to "which is better" is that both are mature products and the difference between them will matter less than whether you use the thing at all.

We are deliberately not quoting prices or feature counts. Both vendors revise plans regularly, comparison articles go stale within months, and a number we wrote once and forgot would be worse than no number. Check Brand24's pricing and Mention's pricing directly.

How to actually decide

Feature matrices in this category are close to useless because both tools list the same features. Three questions separate them in practice:

  1. Which sources do you truly need? Coverage differs by platform and region, and it is the thing most likely to disappoint after purchase. Trial both against a term you already know the results for — a recent campaign, a competitor's launch — and compare what each actually returned. Not what the feature list claims.
  2. Who reads the output? If it is a manager or client, the reporting layer is the product and you should evaluate on the exported report, not the dashboard. If it is only you, the reporting layer is something you are paying for and will never open.
  3. How many seats? Team pricing diverges much faster than single-seat pricing in this category, and it is where the real cost difference usually shows up.

When neither is the right tool

Our bias, stated openly: if your goal is finding customers rather than tracking a reputation, a listening suite is the wrong shape of tool regardless of which one you choose.

The reason is that both classify by sentiment, and prospecting needs intent. They are independent axes. "We've used [product] for years and love it" is positive sentiment and no intent. "Our renewal is next month and I'm dreading it, what else is out there?" is negative sentiment and maximum intent. Sorting by sentiment will not surface the second one for you — so you end up reading everything anyway, which is the work you bought the tool to avoid.

You are also paying for breadth. A listening suite prices for news, podcasts, TV, review sites and every social network. If your buyers are on one platform, most of that is coverage you fund and never use. More on this distinction in buyer-intent signals on Reddit, and the narrower comparisons on our Brand24 and Mention pages.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Brand24 and Mention?

Both monitor mentions across the web and social platforms and report on them. Brand24 leans toward marketing analytics — sentiment, reach, share of voice. Mention has historically leaned toward media monitoring and communications workflows. In practice the overlap is large and the decision often comes down to pricing tier and interface preference.

Are Brand24 and Mention good for lead generation?

They are good at finding mentions of terms you specify. Whether a mention is a sales lead is a judgement neither tool makes — they classify sentiment, which is a different axis. If prospecting is your goal rather than reputation monitoring, both will require significant manual filtering.

Which is cheaper?

Both sell tiered subscriptions that have moved upmarket over time, and both change pricing periodically — check their current pages rather than any comparison article, including this one. Neither is priced for an individual founder monitoring one platform.
